I saw this gold sequin fabric and had a vision. It’s gold and sparkly and shiny and all the things I love! Since I started sewing I haven’t created many sparkly things and it’s time to change that.
I created a face mask with this fabric a few months ago. I finally made a top!

I had hopes for a quick 1-2 week project. This took two months! 🙈 Pattern drafting and muslin fit of the front and back took about 2 weeks. The rest was sewing and figuring out construction as I went!
✨ Behind the Scenes ✨

One part of construction I struggle with drafting are closures. I created a 1″ extension overlap on the right side. Which is normally for buttonholes.
Sewing over this sequin fabric was enough, I didn’t even want to think about buttonholes after finishing the bodice! – I sewed entirely on my regular sewing machine with a regular needle, sewing over the sequins.

I realized the easiest method was hook and eye closure at center front, so no need for an extension.

The inside has a layer of interfacing and satin. Plus boning at the princess seams. This was so necessary to give structure!

Constructing garments from the inside out is an amazing skill!

I feel like I tackled a big personal sewing challenge with this top! I’m so ready for more corset tops!

✨ The Pattern ✨
I used a top I have as a starting point for my self draft. My final pattern is 7 pieces: front bodice, side front; front waist; back and side back; bodice lining; and back lining. Plus 2 straps.
