ZIMMERMANN the designer brand is so full of beautiful clothes. I was so happy to see this Zimmermann Eyelet fabric on Moodfabrics.com! Now I get to create a custom garment from a beautiful designer fabric!

ZIMMERMANN is known for their unique fabrics and prints.

The Zimmermann fabric I purchased is a floral striped embroidered cotton eyelet. It’s described as a Parchment color. I bleached it to achieve this color! Read my fabric review in the photo caption.

In person, it’s what I would call “Greige,” tinted pink – as if a bright red hue garment ran on it in the wash.
Ironically, that happened to my fave white Gap jeans. Since I was already planning to bleach my Gap jeans, I thought, why not bleach this fabric too? A white/ivory eyelet fabric is soo classic!
And the parchment/pastel tint of the original fabric isn’t flattering on my olive skintone anyway.
So, I decided to bleach the fabric! I soaked it in a half cup of bleach mixed with water overnight.
Bleaching this was a scary endeavor because it’s a brand name fabric and I was worried I would ruin it! 😣
Thankfully, it came out a beautiful ivory white!
I shared behind the scenes on Instagram creating this Zimmermann Eyelet Top! It’s saved in my “Zimmermann Eyelet” Story Highlight.
Bodice Design
I ordered 1.5 yards with the intention of creating a top. The fabric is more on the pricey side. I would have loved more ruffles on the top, but I would need a lot more fabric. Simple is better (and faster!) and I figured I can still create a look that would honor the brand. I also knew I wanted to create a matching scarf, so another reason I didn’t add more ruffles.

I lined the fabric with the lightweight white fabric I had in my stash. Which happened to be linen gauze from Mood Fabrics. A cotton bastiste would be ideal, but I can’t complain about the linen gauze! It does have a stretch, but I found it was a great compliment to this Zimmermann Eyelet fabric! I cut out the same pattern piece and treated the eyelet and linen as one layer.
Can I take a minute to say how wonderful it is to wear an eyelet top I won’t have to add another layer underneath?? I love that I made a classic eyelet top and I don’t have to layer. Usually if a bodice is lined, the sleeves definitely aren’t. In my version, I’ve lined them!

Gathering Eyelet Fabric
Gathering this Zimmermann Eyelet fabric is about the same level of skill as gathering a scuba knit! It took a bit more effort to pull the bobbin strings at the end, but it worked out! I used my fave trick of holding the upper thread taut while sewing to help gather the fabric.

There are so many hacks to gather fabric, but holding the upper thread taut, a long stitch length, and loose tension is a magic combo that hasn’t failed me yet!
To do the least amount of work for pretty princess seam ruffles, I cut 3 1/4″ wide of fabric and folded in half. I cut this on the cross-grain, because I liked the detail of the eyelet/woven repeat on this edge over the selvage.
With the fabric folded, I gathered the 2 layers using the technique I statedabove. On the folded edge, I did a row of “top stitching” using a regular stitch length.
Inserting a Zipper into Eyelet Fabric

With a bit of pattern layout forethought, I placed the center back seam on the woven, not eyelet, section of the fabric. The result is the zipper has a nice, flat surface to be inserted into! That’s the nice thing about this Zimmermann Eyelet fabric, it’s mixed with a woven part so there are more options to play with pattern design.

Zimmermann Eyelet Top Styled

For my last summer look before fall, I styled my Zimmermann Eyelet Top with my white Gap crop jeans. I wore it with a square scarf from Aldo, and made a scarf using the linen lining and Zimmermann eyelet. I have a fun reel on instagram with the scarf changes!
I’m looking forward to adding this to my fall looks! With leather and suede, I think it would be a perfect fall top too!

Makeup 💄
I have to add my makeup for this look! Very light, mauve-y tones! I like the bright orange Blush with the rest of the makeup and the white outfit. An bright orange blush works so well on olive skin tones with a variety of different colors. JLO is my inpso with that!
