Hey friends! Do you love designer logo prints? Or a versatile mini dress? My latest make has both of those things!
My goal was to create a classic dress style with the tiny amount of fabric I was given. I want to make a bag or pouch with the logo fabric for sure.
This look is just as fun as my last designer diy look: the Balenciaga dress & legging boots!
I’m thrilled with how this strapless dress turned out!

Fabric
I was gifted this logo fabric from a local designer I worked with. I had a yard of 60” wide fabric. It’s a heavy weight, non-stretch fabric.
Pattern
The strapless dress pattern by Kiana Bonollo on Etsy was the perfect fit for this fabric. The structured style compliments the weight of the fabric. It’s also very accommodating for non-stretch fabrics. The pattern works well for leather and home decor fabrics too.

I’m in the middle of a size 2 and 4 according to the size chart. I cut a size 4 and added a 1/2” of extra ease to the center fronts. This is the area where I need extra ease.
I was quite surprised that the pattern fit was perfect, it runs true to ready-to-wear sizing and I didn’t have to add extra ease even though the fabric has no stretch.
For the neckband, I cut the first piece in the logo fabric and the second piece in a black lining fabric. For the facing that lays inside the dress, I also cut a black lining fabric. Using the lining fabrics helped reduce bulky seams and conserve fabric.
The neckband attachment was a little confusing to me, until I realized there are two understitched seams. The first understitching is between the body of the dress and the neckband. The second is between the neckband and the facing.
The facing goes all the way around to the end of the zipper while the neckband piece is slightly shorter than the bodice. I prefer facings that are 1/2” extended over the zipper tape for a clean finish, however this pattern instructs to serge finish the facing end and sew attach to the zipper tape.
For the hem, I sewed a 1/2” seam allowance instead of the 1” the pattern allows.

Styling
I wore my logo mini dress with a button down shirt and suede boots.
What are your styling suggestions for this mini dress?
