Sequin Legging Boots

Hey friends! I made sequin legging boots and I’ll share all my steps in this post!

Designer style Sequin Legging Boots!

This look is a work in progress and that’s okay! At the end of this post things I noted a few options to make this style even better. I believe I figured out a great starting point so you can make your own designer style leggings boots/shoes!

Continue reading to see how I made this! Plus I included a stiletto heel template to get you started.

Fabric

I browsed silver sequin fabric on various online fabric shops, then I realized so already had fabric that can work!

I had this sequin backdrop curtain from Amazon! I’ve used it several times for decor so its due for a new life! It’s a 2-way stretch.

The shoes are matte stiletto 4” heels.

Pattern

To create the boots, I started with the Gazelle Footed Tights (leggings) pattern from The Wolf and The Tree.

The Gazelle Footed Tights pattern has several sizes from 0 to 32W. It includes petite, regular and tall, plus several style options. There’s 4-way and 2-way stretch fabric options. For the Balenciaga look, I printed and cut the 4-way stretch option. This sequin fabric is a 2-way stretch so I printed and assembled this option.

*Important* Follow the pattern instructions to print only the pages for your size in the footed tights style option. The pattern is layered for you to only print the pages you need for your size. You will have to manually uncheck the other size boxes!

How to Make Legging Boots

After assembling the paper pattern pieces, you only need to change one part of the pattern: the foot shape!

When I made the Balenciaga look, I assembled the pattern per the instructions and first sewed a prototype. I turned the footed tights wrong side out, and traced around the shoe to mark the new foot shape. I highly recommend a prototype to make sure your regular size works.

A video of how this looks is below:

How I created the new foot shape: marked a new seam to the shape of the shoe.

The stiletto shoe I have is a size 8, so I started with that (it’s larger than my regular shoe size, but worked for this look).

The template I made has a 1/4” seam allowance. I stitched a zig-zag at 1/4” and then added a row of straight stitches for reinforcement. You need to re-draw the leggings size to ease it into the foot shape.

It works best on the 4-way stretch option. On the sequin 2-way stretch, I made changes after sewing the leggings.

After the new foot shape is attached, and the leggings are sewn, I place the shoes in first, then mark the placement of the heel. On the 4-way stretch, this is simple, I cut a small box. On the sequin 2-way stretch, it was so much harder to have the stiletto heels fit into the leggings!

I thought of a different solution to make this easier: I added a 4-way stretch fabric to the sole and cut a much larger shape around the heel.

Added 4-way stretch fabric to the sole!

I estimated the shape and size to cut for the stretch fabric addition. I left the fabric around the heel because that gives the style.

Of course if you don’t mind gluing the fabric to your shoe you can potentially eliminate these steps!

I attached the stretch fabric on my machine with a zig-zag stitch, right side to right side, and sewed around. I stitched the bottom edge in place.

Hand stitched the bottom edge in place!

I cut a 1” rectangle for the heel to go through. I sewed a zig-zag and straight stitch around to reinforce the area.

Then, I added non-skid shoe backings. You need them so that the fabric doesn’t rip when you’re walking in your shoe creation!

Non-skid sole protectors added!

After sewing, I decided to cut the tights to knee high boots! Depending on your fabric, you may prefer it too! Sitting on sequins plus having it show through the tops I wore it with, made me change the style last minute.

To have the “boots” stay up, I used boot fasteners. I suggest the best method is to either be happy with full-on sequin leggings, OR making the upper portion of the leggings in a different (softer and stretchy) fabric. Or, use a 4-way stretch fabric only!
